History of International Women's Day
IWD has a very long history. This day has been observed since the early 1900s. The first big movement to end gender inequality was seen in 1908 when more than 15,000 women walked together through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. Inspired by the movement, the first National Women’s Day was observed on 28 February 1909, across the United States.
In 1910 an International Conference of Working Women was held in Denmark in which over 100 women from 17 countries participated. After this conference, the first International Women’s Day was observed in some European countries like Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19, 1911. More than one million women and men addressed the International Women’s Day rallies campaigning for Women’s rights and gender parity.
Just before the first World War, Russian women while campaigning for peace agreed to mark 8th March as International Women’s Day. Since then, this day is being celebrated as IWD across the globe.
Why Gender Equality is Important?
Gender equality is a human right. It helps prevent violence against women and girls. There is no doubt that societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. It results in better healthcare and it’s also good for the economy.

International Women's Day Quotes
A woman draws strength from troubles,
smiles during distress,
and grow stronger with prayers and hope.
You are one of them.
There are two powers in the world;
one is the sword and the other is the pen.
But there is a third power stronger than both,
that of women.
Spring and women have much in common,
they both are about flowering,
revival, inspiration and beauty.
“I alone cannot change the world.
But I can cast a stone across the waters
to create many ripples.”
Lucky are those, who are blessed with
a feminine presence in their lives.
Feel proud to be a woman.
Women, from time immemorial, have fought
for the right of others, now it’s her time
to get her rights realized and
get equal participation in society.
The beauty of a woman must be seen
from in her eyes because that is the doorway
to her heart, the place where love resides.
Happy Women's Day Wishes and Quotes in Hindi
